English 4-5 (IEW)
This course is offered for students in grades 4th-5th and will provide instruction in grammar and writing concepts suitable to both grades. Using IEW’s “Fables, Myths, and Fairy Tales,” this class will give students a strong foundation in writing, grammar, and style. Students will learn the IEW keyword outline system for analyzing a paragraph, which develops their ability to recognize important information from a source text and offers practice retelling a story or fact-based report in their own words. Students already familiar with IEW structure and style will continue to build on their knowledge using new source texts. Students will learn grammar concepts using Analytical Grammar Level 1, including in-class instruction and weekly practice at home. Students will also complete reading activities at home through short stories and literature selections. Applying these concepts through writing, storytelling, presentations, class activities, and games will make learning English fun and memorable. (2025-2026)
